The Store

Guest post by Velma Baird

There’s a lot more to opening your own store than having all the vacation time in the world and being able to boss everyone around! The bill collectors and the disgruntled employees? They all come to you when they’ve got problems and it’s hard to learn how to handle a lot of the issues if they’re things you’ve never thought about before.

I didn’t know anything about technology when I started my Cupcake shop so I had to go to small business xo and do some research and even pay my son on an hourly basis to set up all our computer systems. Do you know how embarrassing it is for a 50 year old woman to ask for help from her 20 year old son?

Now I think things are running a bit more smoothly but at the end of the day it all falls on me which is a lot to think about. That’s the trade off, though, you get all the glory but also all of the hard hits and responsibility!

I agree with you, there is nothing more fulfilling and satisfying than having your own company or business how small or big it may be. In that kind of situation, you are exactly the boss! 🙂

Why would you feel embarrassed for asking your son for help? It seems to me like and amazingly good idea! Your money is in the family. He gets to earn something and be a part of his mother’s business and you can brag about how your clever son has set up everything for you.

I agree with you that being a boss is not easy as it’s a big responsibility. Nice post by the way. I appreciate you for sharing your story .

I always thought about to run my own business but I’m honest I was always afraid of all the cost not really the responsibilities. Is your business successful and do you think that you can lean back one day and be just boss?

Putting up a business of your own entails a lot more responsibility than one would have ever imagined. Unlike having a regular job, being a business owner means having liabilities like office space rent, operating expenses, salaries expense, etc. These are the things that one does not have to worry about when they’re employed. However, the upsides of being your own boss and earning for yourself outweigh the downsides greatly. It entails a lot of courage to enter the entrepreneurial world so it may not be for everyone.

Is not that easy to own your own store these days.

Actually building a business depends on “How risky you are” ,you have to take risk once for starting a business or spending some money on a business. It is hard but only mental stability can help that person to grow.

    Hey Velma,
I started my own business not to long a go and I know how you feel. Starting a brand new business and plus when you’re on a tight budget, it even makes it harder on you. I don’t have the money to hire workers, so the best thing for me is to ask my little brother or my younger cousin to help me. There are so much responsibility and everything that is going wrong is your fault. At the end of the day, I would always tell myself that it’s going to be worth it in the end. Don’t give up and set goals. Thanks for sharing.

It’s really hard to start your own store. I opened my own back in 2003 and I had to close it after a year. I lacked planning..

Start a business online is easier, you can start passing. If it is then better, you can invest more time. Nervous and a little seed money is always needed.
